Nick Christians received his B.S. from Colorado State University in 1972, his M.S. in 1977 and his Ph.D. in 1979 from Ohio State University in Agronomy with a specialization in turfgrass science. He began his career at Iowa State University in 1979 in the Department of Horticulture in a teaching and research position that specialized in turfgrass science. He has taught thousands of students over the years that are now actively involved in every aspect of the turfgrass industry. His research centered around soils as they relate to turfgrass management, pesticide use on turf, alternatives to synthetic pesticides, and turfgrass ecology. He is the author or co-author of several books on the subject of turfgrass management and mathematics for turfgrass professionals. Dr. Christians retired from Iowa State University in December of 2023 after nearly 45 years on the faculty. He is currently an emeritus University Professor of Horticulture and remains active in many turfgrass related areas. He resides near Ames, Iowa.
